Within a few hours after a 19-year-old man was kidnapped at knifepoint from Chandigarh’s Ramdarbar Phase-2 area on Tuesday night, the police managed to rescue the victim and arrest two of the accused. The police Wednesday said that the two associates of the accused are absconding.
The incident, which according to the police was a fallout of a gang rivalry, took place near Sector 31 around 8 pm. The victim, Abhishek, and his friend Ravi were standing near a vegetable market in Ramdarbar when four men approached them in a car.
According to Ravi, the four accused were Yash, Paramjeet, Ravi (of the rival gang) and Mohit. According to Ravi, a heated argument ensued and when Abhishek refused to budge, one of the accused pulled out a knife from the car and held it to his throat. The others then started beating Abhishek, Ravi told the police, adding that the accused soon took him away with them.
The police said the kidnapping was recorded in a CCTV camera installed in the locality. DSP (south) Dalbir Singh Bhinder said, “We rushed to the spot and constituted several teams. Instructions were issued to nab the criminals as soon as possible. Two of the accused, Yash and Paramjeet, were arrested and Abhishek was rescued. The car and the knife were seized.” A case has been registered at the Sector 31 police station.
The police added that both the accused and the victim are residents of Ramdarbar.
